Italy has become one of Europe's most enthusiastic adopters of private markets. Wealth clients want access, and their advisers know it. What stands in the way now is rarely appetite. It is the operations and technology needed to offer these funds properly.
To help close that gap, Titanbay has appointed Ludovico Buffo to lead its wealth business in Italy. He joins to build the firm's partnerships with Italian banks, wealth managers and asset managers, and to give their clients access to private markets through infrastructure built for the job.
Appetite was never the problem
In Italy, wealth clients have moved into private markets faster than almost anywhere else in Europe. The blocker is not demand. It is the operational and technology infrastructure needed to offer these funds at scale.
Too much of that work is still done manually, fragmented across providers and carrying the kind of operational risk the industry has come to treat as normal. Buffo's remit is to change that, working with banks, wealth managers and asset managers across Italy to bring private markets funds to their clients without the friction.
Expertise across investments and technology
Buffo brings a rare combination of investment and technology experience. He joins from MainStreet Partners, where he supported Italian banks and asset managers on ESG, data and investments. Before that, he worked at Russell Investments across institutional business development and responsible investing. He began his career on the trading floor at Crédit Agricole CIB.
"Italian wealth managers want private markets. The blocker has never been demand, it has been infrastructure," said Sheryl Needham, Global Head of Sales at Titanbay. "Ludovico understands both sides of that problem, the investment case and the technology that makes it work. He is exactly the person to build our presence in Italy."
"Italian clients are ready for private markets, and their advisers know it. The question has always been how to offer them properly, at scale, and without the operational risk. That is what drew me to Titanbay. I am looking forward to giving Italian banks and wealth managers a genuinely better way to bring these funds to their clients," said Ludovico Buffo.
A market ready to move
Italy's private markets story is only getting started. With the right technology and operations behind them, banks, wealth managers and asset managers can offer these funds with the confidence their clients expect. Buffo's appointment is a clear step towards making that the standard, not the exception.
