Private markets want to scale. The operations underneath them often are not ready to. Onboarding, subscriptions, capital calls and reporting still run on manual work, spreadsheets and systems borrowed from somewhere else, at far more firms than anyone admits. We believe that gap between ambition and operational readiness is the single most under-measured problem in the industry, and it is the one Titanbay is setting out to measure.
We are running the State of Private Markets Operations survey: a short, pan-European study of how firms actually run their operations, where technology helps, where it gets in the way, and what scaling really demands next. It takes about five minutes.
Why operations, and why now
For a decade, the private markets conversation has been about access. Access is largely a solved ambition now. What decides whether firms can actually deliver on it is operational, not educational.
The tasks are unglamorous and they are everything: onboarding an investor without a fortnight of back-and-forth, processing subscriptions without re-keying, calling capital without a spreadsheet only one person understands, producing reporting that ties out and arrives on time. When those break, growth stalls, quietly.
What the survey measures
Process efficiency in onboarding, subscriptions, capital calls and reporting; whether the technology in place was built for private markets or adapted from elsewhere; and how ready a firm's operations are to scale across Europe. It is segmented for asset managers, wealth managers and distributors, and service providers, and it is anonymous unless a respondent chooses to identify themselves.
What you get for taking part
Asset managers and distributors receive a personalised Private Markets Operations Score with practical ways to improve. Every respondent gets early access to the full report. There is nothing to buy, this is research, and for every response Titanbay funds the removal of 100kg of CO2e through verified blue carbon projects.
Who should take part
Operations, finance, IR, product and compliance leaders at asset managers and GPs; wealth managers, private banks and distributors; and the service providers who support them.
